I've tried to get a literary agent since 2012.
I attended and later taught at writers' conferences. I paid to pitch and was always asked to follow-up. I listened to experts. I was form rejected and personally rejected many times for years and years. They wouldn't risk on me. It's a tough industry. I get it.
But I decided 2 years ago that I can no longer wait on publishing pros to risk on me because if I wait for them, no one will see that I’ve produced something that’s worthy of an audience and worthy of risk.
So I’m taking the risk myself by coming straight to you.
It’s impossible to count all that's gone into writing, editing, producing, and commissioning as a professionally performed and mastered audio book, Goddess from the Machine (GFTM).
GFTM is a tragic coming-of-age sci-fi/fantasy blend about an orphaned young genius named Reese and how her battle against unjust social forces that transform her into a powerful, dangerous entity. It's a book for anyone liable to nerd out on a story world—people who dive deep into fantasy, comics, anime, videogames, and who like a touch of humor. It's a deeply human tragedy that utilizes sci-fi without obsessing over it. The questions the book raises are fundamentally humanistic: Is the quest for power necessarily destructive? Are we bound to our pasts? What is family? Where's the line dividing justice and vengeance?
This book was written and edited by me with help from readers. No portion of it was composed with AI.
The brilliant cover is by Heather Bentzen.
The audiobook was produced by an incredible UK-based duo Rhiannon Moushall (narration) and Henry Willard (mastering/editing) with the full support of my lovely wife. There isn't space to say how happy I am with the product they delivered and how pleasant they were to work with. Henry's editing is flawless. Rhiannon's performance of Reese is both hilarious and heartbreaking. She deserves an award.
Now the ask:
I won't build an audience without the help of those who already know me and believe in me.
If you get this book and like it, do me a solid by reviewing it on Google/Goodreads/Amazon and/or the sales platform you used. Not just one, all of them. Algorithmics is next to godliness.
And it never hurts to mention it to someone you think would like it.
If you’re involved in some creative endeavor and want to discuss writing, self-publishing, or GFTM: I'm happy to chat.
To those who've followed my work since the mid-2000s: Thank you for encouraging me as I’ve developed as a writer and worked on the story world of the Ark Saga. I’m ready to begin releasing these stories and producing them by myself, for myself, and for those who like what I do and want to see more.
Nobody is a tougher critic of my work than me. I’m proud to release this book in paperback, eBook, and AUDIO and believe it’s worthy of your attention and your money.
I hope you’ll join me in my
publishing journey, and my dog Geordi and I hope you enjoy Goddess from the
Machine.
